Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026
Checo is an iPhone app for checking in with family and friends. It is published by Loyola Chacon ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.
The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work. We don't show ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell your information.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an identifier for your Apple account and an email address. If you chose Hide My Email, this is Apple's private relay address.
- Profile. The username and display name you choose, a profile photo if you add one, and your device's time zone.
- Connections. Who you're connected with, requests you've sent or received, and people you've blocked.
- Check-ins. The time of each check-in and who it was sent to, the check-in times you and your connections have agreed on, your alert settings, and your check-in streaks.
- Groups and situations. Groups you create and who is in them, situations you send (such as "Driving"), any text you type for a custom situation, and who acknowledged them.
- Notification token. An identifier Apple gives your device so we can send you push notifications.
What we don't collect
- Your location.
- Your phone's contacts.
- Advertising identifiers or data used to track you.
- Analytics about how you use the app.
How we use it
We use this information only to run the app: to sign you in, show your connections, deliver check-ins and situations, send reminders and missed check-in alerts, and keep your streaks.
Who can see what
- People you're connected with can see your display name, username, photo, when you checked in with them, whether you missed a scheduled check-in, your streak with them, and situations you send to them.
- Anyone signed in to Checo can find your username, display name and photo when searching for people to add. Someone you've blocked can't.
- Nobody else. Your check-ins, schedules, groups and situations are not public.
Companies that help us run the app
- Supabase hosts the app's database, sign-in system and photo storage, on servers in the United States.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple and delivers push notifications.
They process your information only to provide these services to us. We don't sell or rent your information to anyone, and we don't share it for advertising.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile, then Settings, then Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, photo, connections, check-in history, streaks, groups, situations and notification tokens from our systems. The people you were connected with will no longer see you.
If you can't access the app, email us and we'll delete your account for you.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections, and access rules limit each person to their own data and the data their connections share with them. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security.
Children
Checo is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Change your profile photo in the app.
- Turn notifications off in your iPhone's Settings.
- Remove or block any connection.
- Delete your account.
- Email us to ask what information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct or delete it.
Not an emergency service
Checo does not contact emergency responders. If you or someone you know is in danger, call your local emergency number.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app.
